Everything You Need to Know About the Heart-aching Pulwama Attack 2019

While the nation celebrated Valentine’s Day with a lot of fun and frolic, a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel was attacked by a suicide bomber. The incident which took place in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, has claimed around 40 lives of Central Reserve Police Force personnel. The responsibility of this heinous attack was claimed by Pakistan-based Islamist militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The man who executed the mission is known to be a resident of Kashmir and he was also known to be a member of this notorious terrorist organization. Since ages, Kashmir has been the topic of dispute between the two neighbouring states of India and Pakistan. Innumerable terrorist activities have taken place in the region but since 2015, the number of suicide attacks in the region has increased exponentially. This incident recalls the dreadful attack at the Indian Army brigade headquarters in Uri, where 19 soldiers were martyred.

What had happened?

A convoy of 78 vehicles were carrying more than 2500 CPRF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar on 14th February 2019. The convoy was passing through the National Highway 144 and was expected to reach its destination by sunset. A car carrying explosives slammed into the convoy which resulted in a massive blast claiming the lives of 40 CPRF personnel.

The terrorist group claiming responsibility of the attack has also released a video footage of the suicide bomber, who is a 22-year-old from Kakapora. Even though Pakistan has denied any kind of involvement with the act, but it is universally known that the leader of this terrorist group operates within the country. The attack in Pulwama is the deadliest attack on the Indian security personnel since 1989.

What does the world have to say?

As soon as the news of this gruesome attack spread, people across the globe were left flabbergasted. The social media platforms witnessed a steady outrage with people from different sections of life condemning the act. Protest bandhs and candle light marches were conducted. The government has announced a certain amount of money as compensation to the families of the soldiers who have lost their life. The Indian Broadcaster DSport has refused to telecast Pakistan Super League cricket matches. Pakistani actors, artists and celebrities have been banned from the Indian film industry.

What are the repercussions?

Most of the people are voting for war as they feel that it would be the right step and would also teach Pakistan a lesson. Many others are expecting a surgical strike like the one which had taken place after the attack in Uri had taken place in 2016. Whatever might be the repercussions, the nation is mourning the death of her brave sons.

In such a heart-wrenching scenario it is very important to take the right decision to maintain global peace. Instead of indulging in the blame-game, it is better to take precautions so that such horrendous incidents can be avoided in the future.
